Coding agents for generalized planning

I am very excited that our paper Coding Agents for Generalized Task and Motion Planning Problems is finally out! This is the main project I have been leading for the last few months with Tom Silver’s group at Princeton. We gave coding agents like Claude Code and Codex access to robot simulators and asked them to write programs that solve whole classes of planning problems, and found them to be surprisingly effective. You can find videos of what the agents do on the project website, and all of our code (including the full prompts) is here. I am very grateful to everyone who worked on this with me, it was a lot of fun, and I am super excited to continue working in this direction! EMPIRIC

We also released EMPIRIC, a great project led by Yichao Liang with Tom Silver and Kevin Ellis. A robot learns physics that its simulator is missing, like glue or wind, by running experiments and writing what it learns as code. Check out the project website to see it in action!

NeurIPS 2026

QVal was also accepted to the NeurIPS 2026 Evaluations and Datasets Track as a poster! Congratulations to Sergio, who led the project, and to all the co-authors.

EMNLP 2026

I am very excited to have three papers accepted to EMNLP 2026! DecSelfMask as a main conference paper, ViPlan and SAGE as findings papers. I learned a lot during these projects and I am very grateful to all the co-authors for their collaboration and support. I will not be in Budapest in person, but my co-authors will be there to present the papers.

What I am working on

In mid-October I will move to Tübingen to start my PhD at the Bethge Lab, so I am now in the process of finding a place to live (please reach out if you have any suggestions!). I will keep working with Tom’s group on coding agents for robotics and planning, and I am excited to see where we can take this next!

Reading and free time

This week, I have been playing Absolum, a rogue-lite game that I am really enjoying. I bought this physically for my Nintendo Switch, and in general I am very excited about filling out my collection of physical games with more exciting indie titles.

Perhaps some day when I find some more free time I will get around to setting up a page on the website to share my favorite books and games.

I’m also excited to watch the Sixers next year, now that we got LeBron! Very unexpected turn of events after last season. Italian basketball is also starting soon, I am excited to see what my home team, Aquila Basket Trento, will do this year.
